I have a Ford ranger and pump unleaded gas is it okay if I pump other grades of gas?I have a Ford ranger and pump unleaded gas is it okay if I pump other grades of gas? What do you mean by "other grades?" Did you mean to say you normally put super-unleaded in the car, and you want to know if you can get by with regular? If that's what you're asking, the answer might depend on what year your Ranger is. The newer the car is, the more likely it will be that, even if the owner's manual calls for super unleaded, you can put regular in the tank, and the engine management computer will have no problem adjusting for the change in octane and the car will run just fine, though it might make a little less horsepower.
If your Ranger's older, and if it requires super unleaded, there's a possibility that putting regular in it would cause the engine to knock. If that happens, just go back to using high-octane super unleaded.
Really though, I've never heard of a Ranger requiring super unleaded. Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the question?
If you're telling us you normally put regular in it, and you're wondering if it's OK to use super, that answer is that it certainly won't hurt anything, but it would be a waste of money to put super in a car that doesn't need it; you won't get any kind of increase in performance or fuel economy.I have a Ford ranger and pump unleaded gas is it okay if I pump other grades of gas?
Usually only higher performance vehicles require higher octane fuel. Pumping higher octane fuel into your ranger won't necessarily make a difference in the truck, but the higher octane has less impurities and does combust better in your engine.
It is possible to increase the life of your fuel delivery components (fuel pump, fuel lines/filter,...) and help with some exhaust components (namely the egr tube which with too much carbon build-up can lead to lower gas mileage) by switching to a higher octane or using a octane booster once in a while but unless you have some serious performance work done to your ranger it won't net any gains other than that.I have a Ford ranger and pump unleaded gas is it okay if I pump other grades of gas?Unleaded only. Do not use Premium, it is simply throwing money away and is not better for your motor. Only use other grades of gas if the car was designed to run other grades. If your car is a "high compression" or a turbocharged or supercharged engine, then the motor needs the higher octane rating to run properly, but otherwise, dont buy it.I have a Ford ranger and pump unleaded gas is it okay if I pump other grades of gas?
I'm not going through the "ifs, ands or buts" of your questions. Just this:
The manufacturer built that car to run at its best using 87 Octane gas. They recommend using 87 Octane gas. It is pure garbage any stories you have heard that it will "run better" on higher octane gas, or that it will "clean out your engine" to run a tank of higher premium gas. All that is junk.
You do what the manufacturer recommends and that should be the end of it.I have a Ford ranger and pump unleaded gas is it okay if I pump other grades of gas?The truck was engineered to run on 87 octane fuel. Using higher octane is wasting $$.
