It can be alot of different problems , from anything like vacuum leaks, incorrect idle settings, timing, low fuel pressure can cause low idle / idle instability...Need more information to help out further.1998 Ford Taurus acts like it wants to shut off a red light. you probably need a fuel injection flush. check this out. but first, check to see if you need new spark plugs ...this could be the main problem.1998 Ford Taurus acts like it wants to shut off a red light. What is the cause?Get a bottle of fuel injection cleaner. I have a 2002 and it does that to me too...well did.1998 Ford Taurus acts like it wants to shut off a red light. What is the cause?
The first thing to have checked is the IAC, (Idle Air Control).. It is connected to the throttle body and controls the amount of air to the engine at idle (throttle closed) .. They get stuck and don't allow enough air to get to the intake.. The part is easy to change and I think costs about $60. Most anyone who works on Fords can change one in 15 minutes.. good luck...
it's the idle air control valve (IAC) It's failry inexpensive and easy to replace. 1 plug and 2 8mm bolts.
