Does anyone else have these problems with Ford Taurus?

I bought a Ford Taurus with the balance of a 3 yr/36000 mile warranty. The transmission broke at 36,500 miles (coincidentally one week before the 3 years would've been up as well). We had it rebuilt with a 12 mo/ 12000 mile warranty, and it broke after 13,250 miles.

Is this a common problem that their transmissions are junk? I want to know if I should continue to dump money into this car, or cut my losses.Does anyone else have these problems with Ford Taurus?i dont like american cars,

my last car was foreign..Does anyone else have these problems with Ford Taurus?
dump it and don't buy a Sable eitherDoes anyone else have these problems with Ford Taurus? They are junk. Buy japanese cars. They are more dependable.
I just got a Ford Taurus rental and its already having problems! I'd say cut your losses, but see if you can get anything out of Ford, complain, complain, complain!

Check my source, it should help!

Godd Luck!Does anyone else have these problems with Ford Taurus?I had a corporate sales job and always had a Taurus. My last one also lost it's transmission even though I did all the recomended maintenance. Never liked the car but had no choice.Does anyone else have these problems with Ford Taurus?
You should research if there is a recall. I almost spent $1,000 on an abs system for my van. It's a good thing someone else I know had the same van, and told me they had the same problem, and it was a recall. I would have spent the money and no one would have ever told me any different. I always check first whenever anything major goes on a vehicle. I don't have a Taurus, but I hope this info is helpful.
We thought it was transmission problems as well. Turned out the EGR valve was clogged. You might want to have that checked out.

Our Taurus had a slow agonizing, screaming death.Does anyone else have these problems with Ford Taurus?
the word is out... taurus transmissions are NOTORIOUS CRAP!!!!!
Taurus' and Ford in general is known for terrible transmissions. I would say cut your losses. Buy a Honda or Toyota next time. Just try to balance the cost. You may want to put in another trany and just sell it or try to get as much out of it as possible with the bad trany. Either way don't buy another American made car. The days of the American craftsmanship are gone. Its a sad thing.
CUT YOUR LOSSES!

FORD stands for Found On Road Dead.

Dont get me wrong, they have great, excellent trucks, but their cars really suck. I had a 98 Ford Taurus that I purchased in 01. Warranty and a lot of other things were still in effect. I forget what exactly was wrong with it, but the problem was covered by the warranty. We took it back to the dealership to have it service, was told they look at it and let us know when the part would come in, a week goes by, not in yet, another week goes by, not in yet. We went back and forth with this several times to get the car fixed, they never fixed it, we needed the car and took it back, then the overdrive starts coming on for no reason, sat in the office and asked the dealer-what is the real freakin problem, everytime we turn around something is going wrong and you don't want to have it fixed, do you want to be sued? They didn't even try to work out the problems, so we ended up handing over the keys and giving the car back.

Ford has really sucky cars.
Yeah, cut your losses. I was a trans mechanic at a Ford dealership. They should last alot longer than 13,500 though.

To all you who answered don't buy American: American cars are just as good as Japanese cars. I now work for a Japanese transmission manufacturer, and our transmissions are crap! Foriegn makers don't recall bad parts, that's why they keep high warrenty ratings. Don't buy into the hype.
The weak spot of the Taurus is the transmission. but they normally go over 100K, unless you are towing a trailer. My guess is your transmission had a problem that was not corrected in the rebuild.

Transmission problem are not just on fords. my Friends BMW's have the transmissions replaced every 8-12 months. Transmission are the most expensive component in a car and have become the target of the bean counters. every make has be experiencing problem for the last 10-15 years.
If you would have called Ford, they may have decided to help you out on the transmission (with the time and mileage so close to the end of warranty... still give them a call and see what they say), but by the sound of it, whoever rebuilt it either didn't do a good job or something as 13,000 miles is too soon.

Last 5 years of Tauruses or so have been the best years for holding up as I haven't really seen them in the shop for problems , and we have run a small fleet of them out to the mileage you said and longer with no problems.. hell I have many fleets I know of , and it's the older ones that usually have tranny issues.

I say if you will get it fixed, get it done right.. better bet is to go Ford remanufactured. yes more money but 3 year/75k mile warranty parts and labor if trans fails.. and you will have all different and most newer parts
