What could be wrong with the transmission in a 1998 Ford Taurus?

My girlfriend has a 1998 Ford Taurus 4 cyl, with the automatic on the column. Lately, when she shifts the car into drive, it jerks forward when she pressed the accelerator. Most of the time, it jerks when she gets going from a traffic light or stop sign...etc. What could be the issue? It has over 100,000 miles. I am not exactly sure how many. I think its around 120,000.What could be wrong with the transmission in a 1998 Ford Taurus?ford taurus are well known for bad transmissions, and generally pretty close to 130,000 it starts acting up, you may have low fluid tho, so check the fluid to make sure its not low, if the fluid is pink and its not low on fluid then there is a good chance the transmission will need to be rebuilt, so check the Fluid first, take it to the shop and have them check it and give you a diagnostic, what you are describing is a transmission going kaput. don't drive any farther than you want to walk home ok?What could be wrong with the transmission in a 1998 Ford Taurus? You might consider taking it in for transmission service: have the filter changed and the fluid changed. We did this when the transmission on our Taurus began what we thought was slipping. It is no longer doing this. This does not mean it will help your problem if there is more to it, than this, but it might be worth trying. Beware: There are two different types of transmission service, so make sure of EXACTLY what you are getting.
