I can't believe it took this long for the thought to even cross my mind. I read the Surgeon and the Apprentice a few months ago and just today I realized the parallels between Andrew Capra %26amp;Warren Hoyt of the Tess Gerritsen novels and Jack the ripper.
1. All three of them were medically trained and were educated in anatomy.
2. Both Warren and Jack cut the uterus out of the victims
3. Neither Jack or Warren sexually assaulted their victims
4. All the victims' lives revolved around sex- Jack's victims were prostitutes, Warren and Andrew's victims were either previously raped, or assaulted by Andrew.
5. Nobody is sure how many people Jack killed, and the same goes to the pair of Andrew, Warren and Warren's apprentice later on in the series.
6. Jack the Ripper was never caught, and neither was Warren until a few years later when he started his second tour.
I was just wondering if anybody else saw these same parallels, or others. Do you think the characters are based of Jack the Ripper or it's just a coincidence?Tess Gerritsen...Jack the ripper?
Yes, it's possible the character is based on Jack The Ripper, it is possible but unlikely that the author didn't realise that he was basing Capra and Warren on the world's most iconic murderer.
