How to silence power steering noise on Ford Ranger?

I know the small trucks and mini vans made by Ford have a lot of noise coming from the power steering box.I've also been told that different additives can quiet them down.I'd just like to hear about some of them. ThanksHow to silence power steering noise on Ford Ranger?ford has been noted for years of having a noisy p/s pump and it is a gamble when replacing one and you end up with another one with noise and the saleman tells you to drive it 500 miles and see if breaks in... but i have had good luck with "cardone" p/s pumps and there noise factor good luck *****How to silence power steering noise on Ford Ranger?well it makes a noise because it is not working properly it might need to just be replaced with a new one but you can add some power steering fluid if it needs it it might have a leak somwhere so check the fluid and if it is hard to turn your wheel than it is going bad or low on fluid as well the noise could be a few thing as already stated or it could even be a bad bearing in the power steering part it self they do have bearings in them because thy need to spin since they are on you belt drive it could be that there is no way to silence a bad bearing and if it is bad you should get a new one some time in the future when you have the money to spend for one you can put a long screw drive on the pump where you think the bearings are and put you ear on the handle and see if it is a bearing rattling inside then you will know for sure what your problem is but becareful not to get caught in the belt drive when listening because you do need the car to be on watch strings hanging from your hoodie and things like that just becare full hope that info helped you out.How to silence power steering noise on Ford Ranger?if it is making noise because it was low on fluid then you probably have run the bearing dry and will need to replace the pump. I would check the steering rack to see if it is leaking. if the pump went dry and you filled it, you will need to turn the steering wheel lock to lock to force out the air and it may quiet down if the bearing is still good. How to silence power steering noise on Ford Ranger?
check your fluid level - if it is full, drain it until your can pour in a bottle of Lucas power steering fluid. If this doesn't help ( after some driving ) it may be time for a new ( or rebuilt unit ). Check your belt, and all your hoses fro looseness, and leaks. If this has been run too low, or empty, it is most likly too worn . this may just need replacing.
