How much more fuel efficient is the Ford Ranger than the Ford F-150?

I am currently considering trading my truck in (4x4 Ford F-150 Supercrew with its 5.4 cly V8 Triton engine) for something smaller and potentially more fuel efficient. Is it REALLY worth trading in the truck for a Ford Ranger 4x4 Manual Transmission? I use it to commute to and from work and light hauling. How much more fuel efficient is the Ford Ranger than the Ford F-150?my 2003 ranger 4x4 and my 2005 F-150 4x4 crewcab get about the same mpg. the ranger actually was worse until i put in a new thermostat and fan clutchHow much more fuel efficient is the Ford Ranger than the Ford F-150?Keep the truck...if you need it to haul and pull stuff like trailers...etc. You will be glad you have the extra weight and power. Now, go buy your self a used Focus...stick shift..they get about 35 mpg, and driving them is fun. They are so cheap, you wear one out....throw it away and get another used one.How much more fuel efficient is the Ford Ranger than the Ford F-150?Versus a 3L Ranger, you go from 13 mpg in the F150 to 17 mpg in the Ranger, per http://fueleconomy.gov

Assuming 15,000 miles per year, with $3.13/gallon gasoline, on a 45/55% mix of highway and city driving, you'd save about $600 per year.

(At the fueleconomy.gov site you can change those parameters to match your own.)
