I own a '98 Ford Taurus with 150,000 miles on it. In the past few months it has started to make an awful rubbery squealing noise when I turn the steering wheel. Does anyone know how much this might cost me to fix? I don't plan on keeping this car much longer (maybe 6 more months). Is it worth fixing before I sell it or should I sell it as is?
One more issue with it. Every now and then, the Taurus won't start without hitting the gas right as the engine turns over, and not just a little tap on the gas, I really have to rev it to get it going. This happens randomly and without any warning signs. The battery is only a year old.
I appreciate any help or suggestions. Thanks so much!I would like to find out how much it might cost to fix my Ford Taurus? It sounds like the power steering is going and your gas pump as well. Id just buy a new car and trade it in or sell it for parts. if you really were going to keep it those are easy to fix and any mechanic could fix it for you. The price depends on who you go to to get it fixed.I would like to find out how much it might cost to fix my Ford Taurus?
when you turn the wheel and it makes that noise thats the power steering thats going out, could have a leak and your loosing fluid, the pully could be bad or even the power steering cylinder. its not the battery thats not keeping the car from turning on. could be something with the fuel system if you have to give it gas to turn on. as for how much it would cost to fix, im not sure, but hope i helped you out a little...I would like to find out how much it might cost to fix my Ford Taurus? The squealing may be the drive belt under the hood. When you turn your wheels, the power steering pump comes under load, and if you have an old belt, it can slip causing a squeeling sound. They're cheap and easy to replace. The best way to check the condition is to look at the ribbed side of the belt and see if there are cracks in the ribs. If it looks old and cracked, replace. Sounds like your car needs a nice tune up, like new spark plugs and wires, fuel filter, etc.I would like to find out how much it might cost to fix my Ford Taurus?
1. Coud be a problem with the steering column or rack and pinion. It is expensive to have it done somewhere. If you have the know how and tool's, do it yourself.
2. Possibly a fouling / clogged injector, OR a fouled plug. Start with a tune-up and take it from there.
Overall though, it may not hurt to call around and find a local repair shop that offers free consultations / diagnostic's.I would like to find out how much it might cost to fix my Ford Taurus?sounds like your powerstearing belt is loose, and it sounds like you need a tune up..
