Is anyone a fan of Tess Gerritsen's books?

...because I really need your help!



I want to read one of her books that I thoroughly enjoyed years ago, expect there's just one issue. I forgot the name of it.



All I remember is it was set in the 1930's about a girl, who I think was named Rose, and a first year medical intern (who I think was named William). Said William, would help this man, quite old and short to deliver dead bodies from the morgue to the Hospital for money. Rose's sister who was very sick at that hospital, had a child and died. I can't really remember the rest - it's a bit of a blur.



At the end of the book it talks about a real doctor who found that patients died when doctors didn't wash their hands (if anyone can remember the name of this doctor, if not the book, that would be great.)
