Hunters Moon by David Devereux - OK that's a plug for a mates book but it's good.

Try Kathy Reichs, William Patterson, Dean Koontz, Peter Straub or Stephen Baxter

Also Shaun Hutson, but that depends on if you are happy with bad language, and can cope with British black humour in horror
on friends joey talks about the scariest book of all time 'the shining' .... i personally have never read it, but might be worth checking out

gd luckI want a really scary intense book to read..I read Stephen King, James Herbert, Micheal Palmer, Tess Gerritsen
the scorpion house
Well, it's only a short story, but "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell is a REAL page turner. It's the original man-being-hunted-on-a-deserted-island story. It's just awesome, and yeah, it's pretty scary, since it's from the perspective of the man being hunted.I want a really scary intense book to read..I read Stephen King, James Herbert, Micheal Palmer, Tess Gerritsen
If you like short fiction (not lovel-lenght) then your best bet would be H.P.Lovecraft. If he doesn't scare the hell out of you, you are not human.
you can read Hannibal rising by Thomas Harris or anything by Dean Koontz, he is very intense!!

Cold Fire is one example.
TRY ANYTHING BY DEAN KOONTZ--LIKE PHANTOMS. THAT ONE IS ON THE CREEPY SIDE, BUT MOST OF HIS STUFF ISN'T EXACTLY SCARY. I COULDN'T PUT THEM DOWN UNTIL I'D FINISHED THEM. HE'S AN AWESOME WRITER.
You can't go wrong with the gold standard books in the genre ...

The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty

Ghost Story by Peter Straub.

The best in the genre. .. Pax - C
Read The Hitchhiker By: R.L. Stine

There was this one part where he through these people into a lake of Piranahs...oh, I'll just let u read %26amp; Find Out! :-)
Have you tried Dean R Koontz books? They are all scary books and I have read almost all of them, although a few are not good. Try Phantoms, Servants of Twilight, Darkfall, Strange Highways, just to start you out. He is a great author, I hope you enjoy his writing. Happy reading鈽?/div>

The only great horror novel I ever read - Dracula by Stoker. Even better - it's free on the web. Not super-scary (I find it very difficult to be frightened of things that I am certain are not real), but excellent.

One suggestion is a book called Thriller. It's made of many short horror stories, and can make you pretty excited to continue on after you finish one. It might not grip you like a full novel would, but it is still a good book to have if you want to read a scary story or two before bed.

Many different authors made this book together, and there are small bios of each one before their story.

You can find it on www.MIRAbooks.com
The scariest book I've ever read is Salem's Lot. It's old and I read it in high school, but that is the only Stephen King book I haven't read twice. It's one of my favorites, but it scared the h-e- double hockey sticks out of me!
Watchers, by Dean R. Koontz, kept me up all night.
Dracula what an awesome book!!!!!!!!!Totally a paper tearer!!!I tore up all my book marks when I read it and believe me I read alot quote on quote scary books!
Dean Koontz's "Intensity" has some "adult stuff" in it, but it is truly intense.
Stephen Kings "Everything's Eventual" is the best book I've ever read. It has 14 short stories and it is a real page turner. It is one of those book where you don't want to stop until there is nothing left to read.
